The Science IT (S3IT) unit is part of the Information Technology department at the University of Zurich (UZH), with the goal of supporting research use of IT across the university. This includes consulting, research and development in scientific computing and research data management, as well as providing access to cutting edge high-performance and cloud computing infrastructures. For the SWISSUbase project we are looking for a Software Developer to join our team (60%-100%, till the end of 2021, with the possibility of extension).

SWISSUBase Project:
The goal of the SWISSUbase is to implement a national cross-disciplinary solution for Swiss universities and other research organizations in need of research data repositories for their researchers (cf. www.swissubase.ch). This solution will be modular and easily adaptable to the needs of different scientific disciplines. The responsibility of this position within the project will be centered around this modularity and includes all phases of the development cycle. As an example an adaptation of the SWISSUbase solution to the specific needs of linguistics is targeted.

Your responsibilities

You are a specialist in the S3IT team focused on data repositories. You will work in close collaboration with FORS (cf. www.forscenter.ch) as well as the Data Services & Open Access unit of the Main Library of the UZH. If at any point you need advice, your team- and project-mates are there to help. Responsibilities include:

Participate in the software development of all parts of our software stack to take it to the next level
Help to position SWISSUbase within the University of Zurich
Review and consult on the overall design of the system
Help adapt the user interface to the specific needs of linguists
Review and test code
Test the usability of user interfaces
Communicate and report within UZH and within the project

Your profile

Higher education degree in Computer Science, Computational Science, or a related field
Experience as a developer using our technology stack, including Flask, SQLAlchemy, Docker, Openshift, Elasticsearch, Angular 10, Angular Material
Experience in web development with Python and XSLT
Proactive, structured and flexible way of working
High organizational and problem-solving capabilities
An excellent command of English (German in addition being an advantage)
Strong communication skills

Experiences in any of the following areas will be considered an advantage

Metadata standards (ex. DC, META SHARE) and metadata harvesting (OAI-PMH)
PostgreSQL, REST APIs, search technologies, microservices
Experience with S3 technologies
Agile methodologies (SCRUM), TDD/BDD
Experience in research data life-cycle management and data management
Eligibility to work in Switzerland
