SARLab PhD position in the area of three-dimensional SAR data processing 60 %
The SARLab of the Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSL) at the Department of Geography, University of Zurich invites applications for a PhD position in the area of three-dimensional SAR data processing. For more information about the SARLab and RSL, please refer to our website.
The candidate will be involved in the development of algorithms capable of extracting precise three-dimensional information from tomographic and circular SAR data acquisitions. Our research group has extensive experience in the focusing and processing of SAR data including detailed knowledge in three-dimensional SAR. Building on these findings, the successful candidate will work within the group on extending methods extracting 3D information from SAR data acquired with airborne and other platforms and developing applications in areas such as 3D change detection or data fusion. The flexibility of the project allows for various follow-up topics that can be discussed according to the interests of the candidate and our research partners.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and independent person with a passion for science to join our international, interdisciplinary team. Upon start, applicants must have a completed master's degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, applied mathematics or any related science field, preferably with a certain degree of specialization in remote sensing. Applicants must be willing to familiarize with SAR processing, pursue data-oriented computational research, and should be capable to adapt methods from other science fields (e.g. machine learning approaches) to SAR processing. Literacy in one or more programming languages (e.g. Matlab, Python, C++, Java) is a requirement. Knowledge of SAR data is considered a bonus. A good standard of written and spoken English is required. Preference is given to candidates from Schengen countries to facilitate communication with our project partners.
