Professorship in Translational Psychiatry across the Lifespan
100 %

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich invites applications for the following academic position

Professorship in Translational Psychiatry across the Lifespan

For the professorship, a new organizational unit (Institute for Translational Psychiatry) will be established at the Psychiatric University Hospital (PUK), which will be headed by the professor and will be of equal standing to the existing four clinics of the PUK. The professorship will be represented in the management of the PUK and, in analogy to the existing four PUK clinics, will report to the chairman of the management of the PUK for PUK-internal tasks.

The tasks of the professorship are active participation in teaching of medical students in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy, the coordination of the promotion of young scientists and advanced training of medical specialists.

Furthermore, the professor will be expected to lead the Institute for Translational Psychiatry at the PUK and to promote a cross-clinical translational research program across the lifespan, as a basis for precision medicine in psychiatry, using methods of multimodal imaging and digital transformation in diagnostics and therapy. To this end, the professorship will establish a PUK-wide high-throughput imaging platform and database as a basis for clinical disease trajectories research across the lifespan and will develop and implement methods applying digital biomarker and tools in collaboration with the clinics at PUK and national and international research partners. Thus, the professorship will create the prerequisites for PUK to participate with large data sets in national and international networks and programs. In addition to leading an own independent research program,

Applicants will have proven scientific experience in clinical-psychiatric research with evidence of independent and successful clinical-experimental research, e.g. in the field of translational, clinical and multimodal MR- and possibly PET-based imaging. Expertise in structural imaging and biomarker-based digital diagnostic and therapeutic methods is desired. The professorship is particularly suited for a physician-scientist (MD or MD-PhD), ideally a clinician-scientist. However, high methodological competence is a priority, therefore applications by highly-qualified candidates holding a PhD in e.g. psychology, biology, engineering, computer science or mathematics are also welcome.

A habilitation (or equivalent, e.g. lecturer) and an internationally recognized research track record, including competitive extramural funding, in a research field relevant to the professorship is expected. Particularly important for this position is a high degree of integration skills, leadership competence, willingness to cooperate, and a sense of strategic goals. In addition, a great ability in maintaining external relations with external hospitals and referring physicians as well as local, national and international professional societies is essential for this position.
German language skills (level B2 of the common European framework of reference for languages) are required for this position. If not already present, corresponding language skills must be acquired within a reasonable period of time.

As employers, the University of Zurich and the PUK promote equal opportunities. The Faculty of Medicine implements specific measures in the appointment process to increase the proportion of female professors.
The University of Zurich aims to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore explicitly invites applications from qualified female scientists.
Please submit your electronic application for this position by July 4th, 2021 via Faculty Recruiting Tool. Applications by surface mail or e-mail cannot be considered.
