Sarcoma and Anesthetics Research Department, Balgrist University Hospital

Postdoctoral Researcher – image analysis/bioinformatics - Spatio-temporal genome and oncogene organization in cancer
80-100 %

The Surdez lab at the University of Zurich is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in image analysis and bioinformatics. This position offers an exciting opportunity to visualize and decipher the spatio-temporal organization of the genome and oncogenes in cancer.

Join our dynamic team, which focuses on aggressive pediatric bone cancers, particularly on Ewing sarcoma. In a recent study, we demonstrated how the STAG2 mutation, prevalent in this cancer, alters the formation of chromatin loops, resulting in increased invasive properties of mutated cells (Surdez et al. 2021, Cancer Cell). Currently, we are leveraging super-resolution microscopy and innovative molecular technologies to decipher and perturb these mechanisms in live cancer cell models.

Your responsibilities

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will be responsible for analyzing confocal and super-resolution microscopy data related to spatio-temporal genome and oncogene regulation. The role also involves comparing Hi-ChIP data with imaging data and developing computational tools to analyze and visualize chromatin conformation and oncogene regulation. Working closely with biologists, you will utilize cutting-edge computational approaches to model and decipher these mechanisms at the real-time scale.
