Postdoctoral Researcher for the Creation of a Green Algae Platform with Direct Industrial Applications 70 %
The research group of Prof. Dr. Karl Gademann at the Department of Chemistry offers a position as a postdoctoral researcher in an innovative and interdisciplinary research project, which focuses on building on recent advances in photosynthetic organisms. The project will include two fields of expertise: molecular biology and analytical chemistry.
The overall aim will be to use the green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii as a new platform for crucial applications to improve human health. Furthermore, the project will directly focus on the transfer of technology from academy to industry with the possibility of creating a spin-off or a start-up.
Please find further information on the research project here and additional information on the Gademann group here.
The successful candidate will design and test expression vectors in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and evaluate the novel system as promising strategies to improve human health.
The ideal candidate possesses a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry or related areas, fluency in English, and experience in life sciences, preferably in recombinant technology on Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. While a good knowledge of recombinant microalgae is preferred, a solid background in molecular biology is required to carry out the expression vector assembly and microalgae transformation. Experience in protein purification and analytical chemistry is a plus.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with excellent communication skills who can work in an interdisciplinary environment and team up with scientists from molecular biology and organic chemistry. The candidate should have a high degree of initiative and the motivation to have a direct impact on her/his research by the transfer of technology from academy to industry.
What we offer
We offer a highly stimulating environment with the necessary infrastructure, providing the successful applicant with unique opportunities to develop a robust interdisciplinary portfolio and creating a spin-off or a start-up.
