University of Zurich's Center of Dental Medicine is one of the four dental university centers of Switzerland. It has approximately 390 employees and comprises six clinics, a central administration department as well as the Institute of Oral Biology.
The Orofacial Development and Regeneration Unit of the Institute of Oral Biology (research team of Professor Thimios Mitsiadis) has a vacant position for a Postdoctoral Fellow.
Our group has a strong focus on the study of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the development and regeneration of dental tissues, and pioneered the use of microfluidic co-culture devices for the study of the crosstalk between innervation and dental tissues.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on the development, optimization and validation of organ-on-a-chip models for the emulation of dental tissues. For this purpose, the postdoctoral research fellow will combine a wide spectrum of approaches and techniques, including development of organ-on-a-chip devices, co-culture of different cell types, confocal microscopy imaging, flow cytometry and single cell RNA sequencing analysis. Duties will include guidance and supervision of Master and PhD students.
The ideal candidate must hold a PhD in biological sciences, biomedicine or bioengineering. Candidates with expertise in stem cell biology and usage or development of microfluidics/organ-on-a-chip devices are particularly encouraged to apply.
What we offer
We offer attractive work conditions in a modern scientific environment. The University of Zürich provides an outstanding environment for basic and translational research. The project will benefit from collaborations with research groups from the ETH Zürich as well as state-of-the-art facilities such as the Center of Microscopy of the University of Zurich (ZMB-UZH) and the Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ; ETH / UZH).
The salary is in accordance with the Swiss National Science Foundation guidelines for postdoctoral employment. The position is available for 2 years, with possibility of extension. For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Thimios Mitsiadis (email@example.com).
