Postdoctoral fellow – Biology, Endocrine-Related Cancer Research 50 %
The University Hospital Zurich (USZ) is one of the top hospitals in Switzerland that combines medical care on the highest level with cutting-edge research in a central location in Zurich. As important part of the USZ the division of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Clinical nutrition (ENK) uses superior academic knowledge to treat a wide range of endocrine and metabolic diseases including endocrine tumors. Our research team within the ENK [Working group (Neuro)endocrine Tumors)] focuses on novel individualized therapy approaches for neuroendocrine tumors, pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas. We use cellular and in vivo models to investigate novel personalized therapy options including targeted therapies and immunotherapies. We are seeking a highly talented and motivated postdoctoral fellow who will plan and execute research projects related to the implementation of immunotherapy for neuroendocrine tumors. The position is funded by the HZM-Flagship project Immuno-TargET.
Investigation of immunotherapy as a novel therapy approach for neuroendocrine tumors in cell culture, mouse/human primary culture, and in vivo in neuroendocrine tumor mouse models
The project involves the following techniques:
In vivo: Implementation of subcutaneous and orthotopic neuroendocrine tumor xenograft mouse models, in detail: Subcutaneous tumor cell injection, anesthesia, surgical orthotopic tumor cell inoculation, animal follow-up by MRI and PET/CT imaging, intravenous radionuclide application, systemic (intravenous) injections of therapeutic agents, oral application (oral gavage) of therapeutic agents, surgical tumor resection, further tumor tissue analysis by western blot technology and immunohistochemistry
In vitro: Functional assays with cell lines, primary murine and human cells, Western blot analysis, sequencing analysis (NGS), real-time PCR, gene expression analysis, ELISA, histology, immunostaining and microscopy
Data analysis (including analysis of the MRI and PET/CT imaging results), statistics and research paper writing
Eligible candidates for the postdoctoral position should hold a FELASA B certificate (or an equivalent) allowing the execution of the above-mentioned animal experiments, have experience with mouse models, immunohistological and molecular biology techniques, hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, and have a strong motivation and team spirit. They should have the enthusiasm and driving force to bring a scientific question to the end. English skills written and spoken are mandatory.
