The Department of Philosophy has around 80 employees, including nine professors. We are committed to internationally visible research and an attractive and broad range of courses for over 800 students.

Your responsibilities

Willingness to work in a collaborative research environment and to take an active part in ZEGRa's and the department's activities (seminars, workshops, etc.) Willingness to write and publish excellent papers on the nature, aims and norms of legal inquiry, in the context of the SNF-research project «The Varieties of Inquiry». The successful candidate will work on questions such as the following:

i. How do legal inquiries differ from scientific and ordinary inquiries, whether teleologically or normatively?
ii. What are the respective places of epistemic and practical considerations in legal inquiries?
iii. How to solve the «puzzle of statistical evidence»?
iv. Are profiling and profile evidence morally and/or epistemically permitted in legal inquiries?

Your profile

PhD in philosophy, preferably in epistemology and/or philosophy of law. The successful candidate is expected to have defended their PhD by the time they take up the position. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of German is not required but may be an advantage.
