XR Research Engineer (1 year contract) 80 - 100 %

The Research in Orthopedic Computer Science (ROCS) at the University Hospital Balgrist and University of Zurich is offering a research engineering position. The research project is a collaboration project with industry and aims to develop the next generation of surgical education and training by developing a system for immersive remote teaching.

Your responsibilities

Your primary responsibility is to develop a prototype for remote teaching and surgical training. To achieve this, you will collaborate with technical PhD students and scientists from the ROCS team. As a full-stack programmer, your tasks will include:
  • Build a setup for the simulation of a surgical procedure with synthetic bone models
  • Integrate surgical tool tracking with a clinical-grade optical tracking system
  • Develop computer graphics particularly in the depiction of anatomy and surgical procedures
  • Setup streaming of pose information and sound for remote collaboration
  • Implement a prototype for a user interface for collaborative teaching
  • Conducting integration and system tests

Your profile

  • Master degree in computer science, robotics or similar
  • Track record in developing VR and AR applications
  • Excellent programming skills with C# and Python
  • Excellent background in computer graphics with programming skills in Unity and Unreal Engine
  • Experience in networking and streaming protocols
  • Experience in integrating hard- and software components into integrated prototypes
  • Experience in computer vision and camera system is beneficial
  • Willingness for international travel
