Veterinary Pathologist Position, Focus “Diagnostic Pathology” We are seeking a veterinary pathologist to join our reorganised Diagnostic Team. 100 %
Start of employment 01.08.2025The Institute of Veterinary Pathology is an institution of the University of Zurich (UZH) and part of the Vetsuisse Faculty. Alongside research and teaching, the diagnostic services (post mortem, histological and immunopathological examinations of animals and tissue samples, cytological examinations) are a focus of the institute. The diagnostic pathology work also serves for further education and continuous professional development and undergoes consistent, research based updates. It is also used for applied, often collaborative and clinically oriented research.
Your responsibilities
- Contribution to the diagnostic services (post mortem, biopsy and cytology service)
- Advancement of diagnostics (immunohistology, molecular biology, morphometry, advanced image analysis)
- Research on the basis of the diagnostic work, with a focus depending on your interest (interdisciplinary patient-based applied clinical research)
- Contribution to undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training (residents)
Your profile
- EU-recognised veterinary degree
- Completed dissertation (Dr. med. vet. and/or PhD) preferable
- International qualification as veterinary pathologist (DiplECVP/DipACVP) preferable
- Experience in diagnostic veterinary pathology (biopsies, preferably also cytologies, post mortem diagnostics) incl. the application of further immunohistological and molecular biological approaches
- Interest in digital pathology (image analysis; morphometry, application of artificial intelligence)
- Interest in (applied) research
- Interest in an academic career, working within a team, professional challenges and to accept responsibility; flexibility, ingenuity and team skills
- Good German skills (spoken and written)
- Diagnostic work in a highly competent team
- Opportunity to develop your own research track

This position offers options for candidates with a variable profile, ranging from a postdoc after completion of a residency to an experienced diagnostic pathologist with an interest in taking up research and teaching (again). Also, the focus of the position can be adjusted to personal interests.
