Student Assistant in the Project “Waxing and Waning Words: Lexical Variation and Change in Middle English” 10 - 20 %
Start of employment is 1 February 2025, temporaryProf. Dr. Olga Timofeeva and Dr. Annina Seiler Rübekeil at the English Department of the University of Zurich invite applications for Student Assistantships (10-20%) starting 1 February 2025. The position is situated in the project “Waxing and Waning Words: Lexical Variation and Change in Middle English” (WAW-ME) funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The contract is limited to one semester (6 months), with the possibility of extension.
Your responsibilities
The project investigates Middle English vocabulary in four semantic domains: religion, law, medicine, and education. Student assistants will help collect data from the relevant dictionaries (Middle English Dictionary, Oxford English Dictionary, Anglo-Norman Dictionary, Dictionary of Old Norse Prose, Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources, etc.), compile bibliographical information, and perform administrative tasks with the other members of the project team.
Your profile
You are an enthusiastic MA (or advanced BA) student with a special interest in Middle English and the history of the English language. You enjoy analysing words and their etymology and working with historical dictionaries. You work diligently and pay attention to detail. We offer interesting work in the WAW-ME project at 10-20% employment level (approximately 4-8 hours per week). Successful applicant(s) will be able to use shared workspace in the offices of our project team. Student assistants may participate in activities (workshops, training events) of the WAW-ME project team.
