Start of employment by appointment, temporaryHow do robot judges decide? How can we identify discrimination using empirical methods? Why do people obey the law? How can we design fair algorithms or algorithmic decision-making procedures in compliance with the law? And what can we learn from judicial decisions using machine learning or natural language processing? These are prototypical questions we are interested in at the Chair for Legal Tech, Law and Economics, and Public Law. The chair provides a genuinely interdisciplinary and international work environment. Our team is committed to exploring a wide range of social, economic and political issues bearing on all areas of the law. Our research projects rest on experimental methods, econometric analysis and methods from data science more generally.
Your responsibilities
- Programming tasks and data analysis tasks in research projects at the intersection of law, computer science, economics, and related disciplines
- Background research in the aforementioned disciplines
- The preparation of experimental and empirical projects, including administrative and technical assistance in their implementation
Your profile
You have good programming skills, preferably in Python (alternatively in R or Stata), and are eager to use your skills to explore legal and economic problems across the board.
You have a keen interest in legal, social and economic problems and are motivated to develop your skills in a genuinely interdisciplinary and international environment.
You are proficient in English and German as scientific and working languages. Additional language skills, especially French or Italian, are an advantage.
This position offers the possibility to learn about and contribute to cutting-edge research in legal tech, empirical law and economics and law and data science. It provides a chance to explore uncharted territory at the intersection of these and related disciplines, such as psychology. The research assistant will acquire competencies and skills that are transferable to other disciplines and domains and will be of high value in practice and research.
