This position is part of the University Research Priority Program (URPP) "Human Reproduction Reloaded". The focus of the Chair is on legal approaches to family diversity, from a gender and human rights perspective. Through the combination of doctrinal and empirical research methods, special attention is directed to the societal implications of existing legal frameworks pertaining to reproduction and family relationships, and the experiences of contemporary unconventional families (eg LGBTQI+ families and families created through assisted reproduction) often deprived of legal recognition and protection.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for supporting the Chair with
  • background research on issues pertaining to family law, medical law, legal gender studies, human rights and reproduction law and the finalisation of academic publication on top international legal journals and with international publishers
  • organisation of an international workshop leading to the publication of the Oxford Handbook on Families and the Law (scheduled for June 2026)
  • teaching-related tasks, eg preparing OLAT course pages and communication with students taking courses offered by the Chair

Your profile

  • you hold or are about to complete an excellent bachelor's degree in law
  • you have a strong interest in questions around family law, human rights law, legal gender studies and reproduction, and interdisciplinary approaches to law (or some of these fields)
  • you are reliable, and eager to learn
  • you are proficient in both German and English as scientific and working languages; additional linguistic skills, especially French and Italian, are an advantage

It also provides the chance to come into contact and experience interdisciplinarity at a methodological, substantial and personal levels, thus acquiring competences and skills which are transferrable to other fields of law. Moreover, this position does not require fixed office hours and is thus a flexible option to earn a competitive salary.
