The Department of Business Administration at the University of Zurich is one of the leading research and teaching facilities in the German-speaking world.
At the Chair for Entrepreneurship, we conduct research in two areas: Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Main analysis tools are empirical methods, mostly applied to large-scale data sets, game theory and experiments

Your responsibilities

• Maintain and extend our automated web scraping infrastructure built in Python and managed through GitHub workflows
• Support the maintenance and development of our central research database, which includes data from the Swiss commercial registry (Zefix)
• Develop and apply natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) models to support empirical research in entrepreneurship and innovation
• Ensure reliability and efficiency of our data pipelines and model workflows

Your profile

• Completed BA studies in Management, Economics, Computer Sciences or Finance and enrollment as a MA student at UZH or ETH in a technical degree program (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Computational Linguistics)
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas, Numpy) and ML/NLP frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Transformers)
• First-hand experience with web scraping tools and techniques is a plus
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases
• Interest or experience in NLP, particularly the use of large language models in applied research
• Languages: English and/or German (as many data sources are in German); French or Italian is a plus
