Postdoctoral Researcher in Drone Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) 80 - 100 %
Start of employment April 2025 or upon agreement, temporaryThe Computational SARLab at the Remote Sensing Laboratories, University of Zurich, focuses on the understanding of the entire data processing chain of synthetic aperture radar systems: from SAR campaign planning through raw data focusing, calibration and validation to value-adding products. We collaborate closely with leading institutions, including Fraunhofer FHR and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), to drive innovation and enhance SAR applications in remote sensing.
We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Computational SAR group at the Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSL) of the University of Zurich, focusing on the development and advanced application of SAR technologies using drones.
This postdoctoral research focuses on advancing drone SAR technologies for earth observation. The successful candidate will explore innovative techniques in signal and image processing, autofocus, hardware integration, and practical applications of drone SAR systems across various fields.
Your responsibilities
- Conduct basic research in drone SAR technologies.
- Develop innovative methods for data processing and analysis.
- Collaborate on various applications of drone SAR and lead project-related initiatives.
- Publish findings in high-impact journals and present results to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Obtain or maintain a valid drone pilot's license.
- Perform fieldwork for data acquisition and testing – This includes driving by car to the location of interest, as well as flying the drone.
- Contribute to teaching activities
Your profile
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Geosciences or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or C/C++).
- Valid driving license B is mandatory.
- Experience with drones and remote sensing technologies is advantageous
