Start of employment 01.09.2025, temporaryAt the Chair of Ancient Cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, held by Prof. Dr. Victor Walser a 100% postdoctoral position as a Research Associate is to be filled as of September 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter, within the framework of the SNSF project “iPergamon – Ein digitales Corpus der Inschriften von Pergamon“.
The position is limited to the duration of the project and will run until February 28, 2027. Remuneration is in accordance with the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
Your responsibilities
As a project member you will be responsible for the realization of a digital corpus of the inscriptions of Pergamon in close cooperation with the project leader. Your main task will be the editing (text edition, translation, annotation) of the inscriptions in a digital corpus according to the EpiDoc guidelines. You will also be involved in the further development of the digital infrastructure, coordinate the project with external partners and take on administrative tasks as part of the project.
You will organize your work on the project independently and will be supported by student assistants. You will be in close contact with staff working on other epigraphic projects at the Chair.

Your profile
What we expect from you:
Ideally, you will already have experience with digital text editing according to TEI/EpiDoc guidelines, although these skills may also be acquired after taking up the position. An interest in developments in the field of Digital Humanities is also considered an asset.
- a PhD in Ancient History or another discipline within the field of Classical Studies
- demonstrated research interests in Greek History
- knowledge of Greek epigraphy
- good command of Ancient Greek
