Institute of Parasitology

Postdoc in malaria research 100 %

Start of employment April 1, 2025 (or by agreement)

The Malaria Transmission lab at the Institute of Parasitology focuses on basic and translational aspects of malaria transmission. Together with our twin lab at the University of Glasgow, we are studying the biology of malaria transmission both under controlled in vitro conditions and during infection in humans and in animal models. Special interests include understanding formation and tissue sequestration of malaria transmission stages, and how to use this information for diagnosis and treatment.

We offer a stimulating environment in one of the major centers of parasitology research in Switzerland with an outstanding research infrastructure. The University of Zürich and ETH Zürich form a nucleus for research and innovation in the center of Europe.
The salary will be competitive and in accordance with the University's guidelines. The initial contract will be for one year with possible extension.

Your responsibilities

We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to investigate host parasite interactions in the haematopoietic niches of bone marrow and spleen of malaria patients, where transmission stages can form and develop. In this project we will use cutting edge spatial OMICs approaches and complementary in vitro experimental studies for validation.

Your profile

We are looking for a team player with excellent communication skills and a strong interest in studying host-parasite interactions. Applicants should have a doctorate in biology, with a focus on molecular biology and genetics, experience in bioinformatics and statistical data analysis. A background in infectious diseases is a plus (ideally: parasitology). The candidate is expected to assist in teaching and therefore German is beneficial and professional English essential.

Information on your application

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Prof. Matthias Marti.
Please submit your full application (motivation letter, CV, publication list, name and addresses of two referees) as pdf-files.
