Institute for Regenerative Medicine

Postdoc in Bioinformatics or Bioinformatician 50 - 100 %

Start of employment immediately or by agreement

Our lab at the University of Zurich studies the regulation of gene expression in stem cells and cancer. We are seeking a highly motivated and independent bioinformatician or postdoctoral researcher to strengthen our team and support ongoing and future projects involving large-scale sequencing data.

The successful candidate will work closely with wet-lab scientists and will play a central role in the development, implementation and application of bioinformatics pipelines for gene expression analysis, with a particular emphasis on single-cell RNA sequencing, bulk and single-cell ribosome profiling, proteomics, CRISPR screening data (single-cell CRISPR approaches) and molecular recording data.

The Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IREM) combines cutting-edge stem cell and bioengineering research to advance regenerative therapies. Based on bio-inspired principles and novel biomimetic technologies, IREM research focuses on the replacement and/or regeneration of dysfunctional human cells, tissues or organs to restore or establish physiological functions. Thematic priorities are translational regenerative technologies, cell-based regeneration and biomimetic tissue replacement, gene and cell therapy, stem cell biology and cancer, and translational neuroregeneration.

We offer an interesting working place in an international and dynamic academic environment, exciting projects in an interdisciplinary team, excellent infrastructure, a high quality of life in Zurich and a competitive salary following the UZH regulation. Additional information can be found on our website: www.sendoellab.org. The initial appointment is for a period of two years, with the possibility of extension.

Your responsibilities

  • Processing, analyzing and interpreting gene expression data across various biological contexts, including ribosome profiling, single-cell CRISPR methods such as CROP-seq, single-cell RNA sequencing, proteomics and time-resolved molecular recording.
  • Developing new bioinformatics pipelines for gene expression analyses, particularly for our single-cell ribosome profiling strategy and in vivo molecular recording.
  • Actively engaging and working closely with our multidisciplinary team of PhD students and postdocs to support them with their own analyses and perform analyses for their projects.
  • Performing advanced statistical analysis, pathway & network analysis, Integrating complex clinical, biological and molecular data.
  • Contributing to data visualization, figure generation and interpretation for publications and grant applications.
  • Maintaining meticulous documentation of analyses and workflows using repositories such as GitHub.

Your profile

  • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology or a closely related field, with demonstrated computational research experience and a strong publication record.
  • Proven expertise in gene expression analysis, including single-cell approaches.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as R, Python, C/C++, or Perl.
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments is an advantage.
  • Excellent understanding of statistics and experience with complex biological datasets.
  • Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary, collaborative team; willingness to be actively involved in the team's projects
  • High degree of independence, self-motivation and commitment.

Information on your application

Interested applicants are encouraged to send their application documents (cover letter, CV, diplomas, contact information of 2-3 references) as one pdf document.
