PhD in epidemiology, enrolled in the PhD program Epidemiology & Biostatistics of the Life Science Zurich Graduate School (LSZGS) 80 %

Start of employment February 2025 or upon agreement, temporary

The EBPI is the public health institute of UZH where we improve, implement, and teach cutting-edge research methods, providing evidence and context for informed health decisions.
We offer this PhD position in the context of a project funded by the Ukrainian-Swiss Joint Research Programme (USJRP) of the Swiss National Science Foundation ("A Learning Health System for innovative, community-based mental health care delivery in Ukraine: An international, multi-stakeholder effort").
The ongoing war in Ukraine will affect the mental health of Ukrainian citizens for decades. A broad effort from public mental health to individual social and health care is urgently needed in Ukraine to address mental health conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and substance use disorder (in particular alcohol).

Your responsibilities

The focus of the PhD position will be on a continued process of evaluation of the (currently 8 in 4 cities) community-based mental health care centers using mixed methods and according to the five dimensions of the RE-AIM framework, (i.e., Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance) and on the assessment of awareness, use of, and experience with iFightDepression. As a member of the research team you will contribute to the implementation of this research program, analyse data and write scientific publications. As PhD student of the Epidemiology & Biostatistics program you will follow its curriculum and fulfil the teaching requirements.

Your profile

Candidates should have a MSc degree in medicine, psychology (preferable clinical psychology), epidemiology, or a related field. Clinical experience in mental health care and quantitative skills are an advantage. A strong interest in collaborative, international research is required. English skills (at least B2) are required.
