The Musculoskeletal Epidemiology Research Group at the Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute (UZH) and the University Spine Centre Zurich (Balgrist University Hospital) is an interdisciplinary research team focusing on high quality and relevant research in the field of musculoskeletal and spine health and care. The EBPI is the public health institute of UZH where we improve, implement, and teach cutting-edge research methods, providing evidence and context for informed health decisions. We offer this PhD position in the context of project funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Your responsibilities

You will have the opportunity to work on both running and new studies.
Running studies include the SALuBRITY randomized clinical trial assessing the comparative effectiveness of spinal manual therapy and corticosteroid nerve root injection for the management of patients with sciatica. New studies will focus on the burden and prognosis of musculoskeletal and spine pain conditions in Switzerland and internationally with secondary data sources. As a member of the research team you will contribute to the implementation of this research program, process and analyze data, and write scientific publications. As PhD student of the Epidemiology & Biostatistics program you will follow its curriculum and fulfil the teaching requirements.

Your profile

Candidates should have an MSc degree in medicine, chiropractic, physiotherapy, epidemiology, or a related field. Clinical experience in musculoskeletal and spine health care, quantitative skills, and a strong interest in collaborative, international research are an advantage. Excellent English and German language skills/fluency are required.
