Start of employment June 2026 or by agreement, temporaryThe group “Mechanisms of Inherited Kidney Disorders” led by Prof. Olivier Devuyst is part of the Department of Physiology - an international biomedical center on the Irchel campus at the University of Zurich. This highly dynamic research group interacts with clinical departments at the University Hospital Zurich and works with technology platforms in collaboration with ETH Zurich, creating a unique and engaging work environment.
Our zebrafish platform uses state-of-the-art genome editing approaches (CRISPR-cas9) and molecular biology techniques to create new zebrafish models of genetic diseases and transgenic reporter lines. With these models, we perform phenotypic studies and drug screening in conjunction with translational studies using biochemical analysis, functional assays and optical imaging for our internal research or external collaborators. You would be responsibile for preparing high-quality plastic and cryo- sections with an emphasis on preserving eye structure for downstream imaging and histological analysis.
Your responsibilities
- Prepare zebrafish larval samples using Technovit and perform plastic sectioning and histological staining for morphological analysis.
- Perform cryo-sectioning using a rotary microtome and conduct immunofluorescence analysis.
- Support general lab operations including DNA analysis (genotyping) and eventually western blot.
Your profile
- Completed education as laboratory technician (EFZ Laborant:in) in biology or equivalent qualification
- Previous experience working in a research laboratory
- Ability to execute protocols independently and efficiently
- Capacity to perform repetitive tasks
- Experience with plastic sectioning, cryo-sectioning and immunostaining is an advantage
- Precise, well-organized and proactive
- Excellent knowledge of English and good communication skills
