Assistant Professorship with Tenure Track in Architectural History 100 %
Start of employment 1 February 2028The University of Zurich invites applications for an assistant professorship with tenure track in Architectural History starting on 1 February 2028. After two temporary three-year contracts the position will become tenured on the condition that the candidate passes the evaluation process.
The future holder of this position is expected to conduct excellent, internationally visible research in the field of architectural history and have relevant teaching experience. In teaching, they should cover major areas of architectural history between the Middle Ages and the 21st century. Current approaches to cultural and art history are welcome. In research, a focus on one of the following areas is desirable: architecture as cultural heritage, function and reception of architecture, architectural theory, digitality and mediality of architecture, history of architecture in transcultural comparison, sustainability and environmental history.
In addition to developing innovative research ideas, the professorship is to collaborate in research and teaching with other professorships at the Department of Art History, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and with national and international institutions is expected. Applicants must have completed their doctorate at the time of application, have further academic achievements relevant to the field, and have begun a habilitation project or equivalent second research project. Experience in acquiring third-party funding is required. Teaching may be carried out in English or German. Non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first three years of their appointment.
